PURPOSE: An electrode for a prismatic secondary battery is provided, to prevent the swelling, to prevent electrode plates from being short by inhibiting the separation of an active material and to release the stress of an electrode plate by expansion and contraction. CONSTITUTION: The electrode for a prismatic secondary battery is an elliptical electrode roll prepared by coating an electrode active material(24, 34) onto the both sides of a substrate(22, 32) and winding it together with a separator, wherein at least one side of the substrate is coated with the electrode active material with an interval(26, 36) every length corresponding to the length of the longer side of the elliptical electrode roll. Preferably the interval(26, 36) is formed on the outer side of the wound direction of the substrate. The interval(26, 36) is formed to be narrow to the direction of the substrate surface(22, 32) and to be wide to the direction of the active material surface(24, 34).
