PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a substrate for a display device which easily facilitates weight reduction and thickness reduction, resists impact, exhibits high performance in a broadband and has an excellent gas barrier characteristic. SOLUTION: The substrate for the display device has a gas barrier layer containing inorganic particles containing ultrafine particles whose weight average particle diameter (D50 ) is 10 to 200 nm and whose aspect ratio is below 20 and an organic material, and a plastic film, and a value of retardation (Re) at a wavelength of 632.8 nm is 15 nm or less. The substrate for the display device is obtained by coating the plastic film with a coating liquid for forming the gas barrier layer prepared by adding a material for producing the inorganic particles into a solution containing the organic material, and by curing the organic material. |
