PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a displacement sensor that can be reduced in size, weight, mount space and cost, and also can reduce errors due to count miss by setting a signal system to one system. SOLUTION: In a steering angle sensor (displacement sensor) for measuring the rotational displacement of a relative rotational motion between a photointerruptor 3 and a slit plate 2 by detecting the scale interval of a scale portion 2 comprising slits 21s disposed at predetermined scale intervals on the outer periphery of the slit plate 2, the scale intervals of the scale portion 21 are irregular and determined by such a mathematical mapping that the time average value of any randomly extracted section is constant and the scale interval at any position is determined uniquely by the scale interval at the preceding position.
