A container such as a fuel can comprises a body 1 having a filling and emptying passage with a venting passageway 9 leading from said passage to a point above the contents spaced from the passage. A detachable dispensing nozzle 8 provides a discharge passage for the contents and openings 14 in a retaining member allow venting of the passageway 9 during dispensing. Sealing means 6 may cooperate with the nozzle 8 and may also cooperate with a filling nozzle when the dispensing nozzle 8 is removed and baffles may be provided to guard against reflux of the liquid when the container is filled.
