PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately correct the response delay of air-fuel ratio control due to wall flow during transition in an internal combustion engine having a variable valve mechanism for varying the lift of an intake valve. SOLUTION: A basic value of a port wall flow correction value for matching fuel adhering to the wall surface of an intake port is set from rotation, load, water temperature, and the rateΔTVO of change of a throttle, etc. The basic value is corrected using the correction value which is set to get higher as the lift (operating angle) of the intake value increases, to determine the final port wall flow correction value. The basic value of a cylinder wall flow correction value for matching fuel adhering to the interior wall surface of a cylinder is set from rotation, load, water temperature, the rateΔTVO of change of a throttle, and the time elapsed since startup, etc. The basic value is corrected using the correction value which is set to get lower as the lift (operating angle) of the intake valve increases, to determine the final cylinder wall flow correction value.
