PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a solid wire for gas shielded arc welding, which has excellent suitability for high heat input welding and a wire feeding property, and can efficiently form a sound weld joint under excellent welding workability, and to provide a raw rod suitable for manufacturing the solid wire. SOLUTION: The solid wire for gas shielded arc welding is constituted by a steel satisfying, by mass%, 0.02-0.12% C, 0.60-1.20% Si, 1.0-2.0% Mn, 0.50% or less Mo (including 0%), 0.1-0.40% Ti, and 0.0005-0.009% B, having a quantity of solid solution Ti of 0.08% or less. The solid wire has a satisfactory wire feeding property along with a wire drawing property and excellent suitability for high heat input, and gives a welded metal high strength and toughness. The raw rod for the solid wire is also disclosed.
