PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To avoid the trouble that paper is sent in a state of a moving blade being positioned in a paper path and to enhance the printing accuracy by removing the slack out of continuous paper. SOLUTION: In a printer 10 with a planet gear 53 for selectively transmitting the power of a paper feed motor 33 to a pair of paper feed rolling 17 and 18 or to cutter mechanism 19 corresponding to a rotation direction of the motor, there are provided a process of judging the position of the moving blade 40 when a lid body 24 is closed or when the power of the printer 10 is turned on, a process of removing the slack out of the roll paper P1 by driving the paper feed motor 33 in a paper feed operation direction when the moving blade 40 is judged to be at a home position, and a process of returning the moving blade 40 to the home position by driving the paper feed motor 33 in a cutter operation direction when the moving blade 40 is judged not to be at the home position and then removing the slack out of the roll paper P1 by driving the paper feed motor 33 in the paper feed operation direction.
