PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging apparatus in which relative positional shift of recording of a pair of test patterns being formed in order to adjust the ink ejection timing can be calculated in a short time. SOLUTION: The image recorder 100 comprises a carriage 110 and a sheet holding mechanism 140. The carriage 110 comprises a section 120 for recording an image on a sheet 192, and a CCD unit 130 for reading an image recorded on the sheet 192. The image recorder 100 further comprises a mechanism 172 for driving the carriage 110, a section 174 for controlling the recording section 120 to record a pair of test patterns on the sheet 192, and a section 176 for calculating the relative positional shift of recording the pair of test patterns based on cross correlation of the density data thereof.
