PURPOSE: An engine control method is provided to achieve improved performance of brake even when the engine load operates at an engine idle state during travel. CONSTITUTION: An engine control method comprises a first method(S100 to S120) of judging whether the deceleration condition is satisfied in the vehicle satisfying the travel condition; a second step(S130,S140) of performing a dashpot control for controlling an engine idle air control operation, if it is judged in the first step that the deceleration condition is satisfied, and judging whether the dashpot control value is lowered to the level lower than a preset level; and a third step(S150 to S180) of performing an engine air control operation in accordance with whether the brake enhancement condition is satisfied or not, if it is judged in the second step that the dashpot control value is lower than the preset level.
