PURPOSE: A fuel system is provided to achieve improved starting ability by maintaining the fuel pressure in the injection pump even during the long term stoppage of engine. CONSTITUTION: A fuel system comprises a fuel tank(1); a fuel supply pipe(2) for guiding supply of the fuel contained in the fuel tank; an injection pump(5) for compressing the fuel and feeding the fuel to a fuel injection nozzle(6); a fuel return pipe(7) for returning the residual fuel to the fuel tank after injection performed through the fuel injection nozzle; a single valve body interposed between the fuel supply pipe and the fuel return pipe, which has a communication hole for communicating the fuel supply pipe and the fuel return pipe; and a shutoff valve for shutting the communication hole during starting of the engine and opening the communication hole when the engine is turned off.
