PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To structure a range finder system without spoiling versatility nor making the storage capacity of a storage means large nor making the data transfer time long. SOLUTION: In a range finding sensor 1, an arithmetic part 13 is provided which performs operation for finding a correlative value as intermediate data of phase difference operation in range finding operation. For the range finding operation, a CPU 8 computes the intermediate data to save the storage capacity of a storage part 6 and shortens the time of its data transfer. When the intermediate data are computed, area specification in an effective area 9a and a shaded area 9b of a photodetection part 9 as area specification for an ordinary subject and area specification only in the effective area 9a of the photodetection part 9 as area specification for a low-contrast subject are switched to realize a range finding sensor which is adaptive to even the low-contrast subject, so that the versatility is not spoiled. |
