PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable a sheet feeder having a large capacity sheet containing part to feed sheets one by one at a proper feeding while properly aligning angle the ends of sheets near the bottom of the stack. SOLUTION: The feeder is equipped with a sheet containing means, a regulating means for regulating at least an end of each of the sheets stacked in the containing means, an energizing means for pressing the regulating means to at least one end of the sheet, and a sheet feeding means for separating and feeding the topmost sheet in the containing means. The pressing force of the regulating means is designed to be different at positions with different directions of sheet stacking in the containing means. The pressing force is set to be weaker on higher-positioned sheets than on lower-positioned sheets in the direction of sheet stacking in the sheet containing means.
