PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and a device for sending papers in a printer whereby continuous paper can be accurately sent over any distance and in a short time, and an ink jet printer. SOLUTION: In the method for sending the continuous paper of the printer 1 in which the continuous paper is sent step by step in its longitudinal direction over an arbitrary distance along a sending route 4, a detection mark E is printed on the continuous paper A in a standing state, and then the detection mark E is detected at the downstream side of a transfer direction of the continuous paper A started to be sent, when the sending is stopped.
