PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hinge device superior in economic efficiency and durability with the simple constitution, and a cellular phone using this hinge device. SOLUTION: This hinge device is provided with a cylindrical member 5, a catch 3 provided with an engaging projection part 38 for forming a projecting spherical surface composed of a prescribed radius of curvature, an energizing means 4, and a disk 2 respectively arranging an engaging recessed part 32 for engaging with the engaging projection part, and forming a recessed spherical surface having a radius of curvature larger than a radius of curvature of this engaging projection part in a part opposed to the engaging projection part of the catch, and rotatably connected to the catch, and is constituted so as to fix a lid body part by maintaining an engaging state of the engaging projection part 38 and the engaging recessed part 32 by energizing force of the energizing means, and release the engaging state by opening and closing the lid body part against the energizing force.
