CABLE MODEM SOFTWARE AND BOOTROM UPGRADING METHOD OF CABLE MODEM

PURPOSE: A cable modem software and bootrom upgrading method of a cable modem is provided to effectively manage a cable modem by recording cable modem software and bootrom upgrade information in a VSIF(Vendor-Specific Information Field) of a configuration file. CONSTITUTION: A cable modem is initialized(101). It is checked whether the cable modem receives a configuration file(103). If the cable modem has received the configuration file, the cable modem searches a VSIF field of the configuration file(105). The cable modem checks whether there is a recognizable cable modem software or bootrom upgrade information in the VSIF(107). If there is the upgrade information, the cable modem requests upgrade file from a TFTP(Trivial File Transfer Protocol) server(109). When the cable modem receives the upgrade file(111), it upgrades the cable modem software or bootrom(113).
