PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coating method and apparatus capable of estimating the generation of a coating flaw beforehand and performing predetermined coating stably to keep a stable coating state. SOLUTION: In the method and apparatus for coating a continuously running web with a coating solution in predetermined thickness, the shape of a pool of the coating solution formed between a coating head and the surface of the web is detected and a coating condition is controlled on the basis of the detection result.
