PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a halogen ion adsorbent from of apatite hydroxide which can efficiently adsorb fluorine and iodine. SOLUTION: The halogen ion adsorbent is produced by adding an aqueous solution of a phosphoric acid compound to the powder of a hard material containing a calcium content and ageing while stirring to synthesize apatite hydroxide.
