PURPOSE: A semiconductor optical amplifier module having a monitoring device is provided to reduce the manufacturing cost and improve the maximum output power with a high degree of integration. CONSTITUTION: The semiconductor optical amplifier module comprises a housing(210), a semiconductor optical amplifier(290), the first support section(300,310) and the second support section(320,330). The housing has windows(220,240) on its two opposing walls to form a path of first and second optical fibers(230,250). The semiconductor amplifier, which is fixed within the housing(210), amplifies and outputs an inputted optical signal. The first support section(300,310) and the second support section(320,330) support the first and second optical fibers(230,250), respectively. The semiconductor optical amplifier module further comprises the first optical detector(340) aligned to detect uncoupled light generated from the front end of the first optical fiber(230).
