PURPOSE: To provide a thread cutting device of a horizontally rotating shuttle sewing machine capable of solving problems such as sewing defects and thread cutting occurred at the time of sewing due to arranging a shuttle at a lower part, bringing a blade part of thread cutting knives close to a needle hole in a horizontal direction and thus shortening a cloth side thread remaining length after cutting thread. CONSTITUTION: On a bed part lower surface, a shuttle shaft base 24 attached position-adjustably within a horizontal plane, one horizontally rotating shuttle 20 rotatably pivoted to the shuttle shaft base and the thread cutting device cutting the thread by cooperations of a first thread cutting knife 4 having a thread capturing part and the blade part and a second thread cutting knife 8 having the blade part are provided. For the thread cutting device, at least one of the thread cutting knife performs a swing motion within the horizontal plane and a center 25A of the swing motion is disposed on the opposite side of a rotation center 20A of the horizontally rotating shuttle 20A to a cloth feed direction line 26 passing through a needle location position 2A.
