Electrical conductor consists of an electrically conducting core of an alkali metal in continuous contact with the inner wall of a tubular inner, cover of thermoplastic resin, which is inert towards the alkali metal. The tubular cover is itself enclosed within a continuous, outer cover. The inner cover consists of a relatively thin layer of an alkenic hydrocarbon polymer with a permeability for water vapour below 186 mg./cm2/mm/24 hrs., and the outer cover consists of a relatively thick layer of an insulating polymer, which is reactive towards the alkali metal, the inner and outer covers being united at their boundary face to form a unitary insulation round the core.
