PURPOSE: A receiver of a mobile communication system for transmitting packet data and a method for receiving signals using the same are provided to control operations of a mobile station receiver using a control channel, if re-transmission and variable modulation operations are used. CONSTITUTION: A despreader(12) despreads receiving signals in accordance with PN(Pseudo Noise) codes and outputs the despreaded receiving signals. A control channel demodulation part demodulates control information from the despreaded receiving signals. A packet data channel demodulation part includes a buffer for temporarily storing the despreaded receiving signals, and demodulates packet data from the receiving signals stored in the buffer in accordance with the demodulated control information when the control information is demodulated by the control channel demodulation part. And the control information includes the first information indicating the number of slots configuring the packet data, the second information indicating user allocation for the packet data, the third information indicating whether the packet data are new or re-transmitted, the fourth information indicating to which channel the packet data corresponds when the packet data are transmitted by a preset unit channel, and the fifth information indicating the size of the packet data.
