DEVICE AND METHOD FOR SEARCHING CELLS AT DISCONTINUOUS RECEPTION MODE IN MOBILE COMMUNICATION SYSTEM

PURPOSE: A device and a method for searching cells at a DRX(Discontinuous Reception) mode in a mobile communication system are provided to search cells only when energy of a received active set does not exceed a predetermined threshold, and to search adjacent cells only having signal strength exceeding a predetermined threshold, then to perform cell search off line, so as to improve a standby time of a mobile communication terminal at the DRX mode. CONSTITUTION: A decimator(101) receives an in-phase receiving signal(RX_I) and a quadrature receiving signal(RX_Q), and outputs in-phase on time data(I_ON), quadrature on time data(Q_On), in-phase rate time data(I_LATE) and quadrature rate time data(Q_LATE). A memory(103) buffers the data received from the decimator(101). A MUX(105) is for selecting on/off line cell search. A correlator(107) performs cell search. And a controller(115) generates a control signal indicating the size of the data to be buffered in the memory(103), a location signal indicating a location of the data to be buffered in the memory(103), a control signal controlling the MUX(105), and a control signal for cell search of the correlator(107).
