FIELD: powder metallurgy; development of technologies of manufacture of heat-resistant and wear-resistant electrical copper-based composite materials by mechanical alloying; manufacture of power break and arcing contacts. SUBSTANCE: proposed method includes preparation of powder mixture containing particles of copper in form of chips ground preliminarily and at least one agent selected from group containing chromium, tungsten, NbCr2 and silicon carbide in the amount not exceeding 50 mass-% at initial dispersivity of 10-40 mkm, grinding this mixture in high-power mill for 30-180 min followed by cold briquetting, heating to temperature not higher than temperature of beginning of recrystallization solid copper solution and molding at this temperature. Copper-based composite material manufactured in accordance with the proposed method includes additionally at least one agent selected from group containing chromium, tungsten, NbCr2 and silicon carbide in the amount not exceeding 50 mass-% characterized by long-term hardness at 400 C exceeding hardness of internally oxidized copper by at least 1.5 times. EFFECT: enhanced thermal stability of material; increased hardness at high level of electrical conductivity. 7 cl, 4 dwg, 2 tbl, 2 ex
