PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a silver halide photographic sensitive material having high contrast and high sensitivity. SOLUTION: The silver halide photographic sensitive material having at least one silver halide emulsion layer on the base contains a compound which is subjected to a one electron oxidation to form a one electron oxidized body capable of further releasing two or more electrons in connection with the subsequent bond cleavage reaction and has a characteristic curve whose gamma in the optical density range of 0.3-3.0 is >=5.0 as a characteristic curve shown on rectangular coordinate axes with equal unit lengths of logarithmic light exposure (x-axis) and optical density (y-axis).
