PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and apparatus for treating a dioxin-polluted material with which a polluted material having dioxin attached on it can be made nontoxic efficiently at a relatively low temperature at a low cost. SOLUTION: The method for treating a dioxin-polluted material comprises the following processes: hot air is blown into a container 1 containing a dioxin- polluted material 2 on which dioxins are attached to vaporize the attached dioxin; and subsequently, a nitrogen dioxide-containing gas 5 is added to catalytically decompose dioxin using a catalyst 4.
