The device (1) has a member for radial and angular positioning of the padding support (2) and the body (3). The fixed body comprises a fixed bloc (4) and a peg (5a,5b) coming from it having a free open end (6) directed towards the padding support. The peg has a transverse groove (7). The padding support comprises a plate (9) perpendicular to the steering column axis and a mandrel (10) directed towards the fixed block. The plate has a transverse opening (11a,11b) through which the free end of the peg passes and carries an axial locking bolt (12) which engages the transverse groove.
