PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a safe and high-purity polyoxyalkylene derivative to be used in modifying biologically related substances of high preservability. SOLUTION: The objective polyoxyalkylene derivative is shown by the formula (1) (where, Z is the residue of a compound having 2-8 hydroxy groups; AO is a 2-18C oxyalkylene group; n is 0-2,000; m is 0-2,000; 1<=n+m, 2<=a+b<=8, 1<=b; R is a 1-30C hydrocarbon group; and X is a 3-10C bivalent hydrocarbon group). The other objective method for producing the polyoxyalkylene derivative is provided.
