PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus for correcting a form of a steel sheet, which enables precise correction of the form, by optimizing an output value of an electromagnet and an inter-mesh of the correcting roll, and which improves the productivity by automatically controlling the inter-mesh of the correcting roll, and provide a method. SOLUTION: In the apparatus for correcting the form of a steel sheet which arranges a support roll in a hot dipping bath 2 so as to face to a running strip 1, to correct the form of the strip 1 by adjusting the inter-mesh I of the support roll, and which arranges several displacement sensors 7 and electromagnets 8 in the transverse direction, so as to oppose the running strip 1 at the outlet of the hot dipping bath 2, to correct the form of the strip 1 by controlling exciting current due to the electric magnets 8 by a detected signal for the position of the strip 1 from the displacement sensors 7, this apparatus has a control means 11 for detecting an output value of the electromagnets 8 and adjusting the inter-mesh I of the support roll according to the detected output value.
