PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide both a medicine having actions of identifying a ligand of activin receptor-like kinase 7 (ALK7) specifically expressible in the pancreas and promoting the insulin secretion from the pancreas and a method for screening the medicine. SOLUTION: This medicine for treatment and/or prophylaxis of diabetes comprises a protein selected from activin AB, activin B and the ALK7 as an active ingredient. The medicine for the treatment and/or prophylaxis of the diabetes comprises a DNA encoding the protein as an active ingredient. The method for screening the medicine for treatment and/or prophylaxis of the diabetes comprises utilizing the protein or DNA. A diagnostic agent and a diagnostic kit for the diabetes are obtained by using an antibody specifically recognizing the DNA or protein. A method for transporting the medicine for treating the diabetes comprises using the antibody specifically recognizing the ALK7 to the kidney.
