PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a display illumination system with a wide view angle and improved light distribution characteristics of an on-vehicle display lighting system. SOLUTION: In the display illumination system having a light source; a casing for storing the light source; and a lens diffusing light radiated from the light source, the light source is constituted so that a region of the specified width having the direction of a tube shaft 15 of a tubular bulb 14 in the length direction is used as a light projecting window 16, a fluorescent screen 17 is formed on the inside of the tubular bulb other than the light projecting window, and a pair of outside electrodes 18 is installed on the outside along the tube shaft of the tubular bulb to form an outside electrode fluorescent lamp 10.
