摘要 PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method for classification of vehicles utilizing a laser sensor are provided to measure the wheel width or wheel thread of a vehicle to classify the vehicle by configuring a foot plate assembly in the direction of the road width. CONSTITUTION: A foot plate assembly comprises a switch section comprising a predetermined number of switches (221,222,223,224,225,226) and a sensor(240) for measuring the distance based on the light reflected by switches pushed down by a trampling pressure. When wheels(251,253) transfer a trampling pressure onto a foot plate(210), the foot plate(210) presses switches(221,222,223,224,225,226) of the switch section to be pushed down to a metal support plate(230). Each switch of the switch section is fixed by a spring so that it returns to the original position when released from the trampling pressure.
