<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a map picture enabling a user to easily recognize information on surroundings. SOLUTION: A map providing server 8, when it receives positional data detected by a cellular phone with a GPS receiver, selects the reduction rate of base map data so that the number of landmarks within the retrieval range corresponding to the positional data is equal to or below 10. By providing map picture data of prescribed reduction rate based on the base map data to the cellular phone 2 with a GPS receiver, even in the place where the landmarks are densely packed, an easy-to-see reduction rate map picture in which the land marks do not overlap can be displayed on the display section 12 of a cellular phone 3. Thus, a map picture enabling easy recognition of information on surroundings can be provided to the user.</p> |
