PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a camera capable of exactly deciding appropriate emitted light quantity at the time of photographing with flash light by reducing the influence of normal light. SOLUTION: Light pre-emission is performed by emitting light singly, and subject light at such a time is detected by a CCD sensor being a storage type image pickup device. At such a time, the subject light is detected in a storage time synchronizing with a light emitting time in the light pre-emission. Then, a guide number at the time of photographing with flash light is set based on the detected result by the CCD sensor at the light pre-emitting time. When pre-emitted light received quantity based on first light pre-emission 1 is larger than a specified value, the guide number is set according to the light pre- emission 1. Meanwhile, when the pre-emitted light received quantity based on the first light pre-emission 1 is equal to or under the specified value, the intensity of emitted light is made larger to perform second light pre-emission 2. Then, the guide number is set based on the detected result on the light pre- emission 2. |
