PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing a liquid crystal device having a uniform gap between substrates. SOLUTION: In the method for manufacturing a flat panel display having two substrates, a spacer 20 is produced by laser light on a transparent substrate 10' to keep a specified distance between the two substrates 10, 10'. Then the spacer is cooled to coagulate and is dispersed between the two substrates to produce a cell gap having a specified distance.
