The door or opening panel (1) pivots about a fixed chassis (2) and has a rack (20) which is attached to the chassis at one end and held in contact with a pinion (15) at the other end by a roller (22). The pinion drives a rotatable plate (11a) which supports a disk with magnetic sectors opposite to a similar magnetic disk fixed to the door. Over a long movement of the door no net energy is used but at any point the door will stop in stable equilibrium
