PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an aromatic amine-based liquid epoxy resin which has a small hydrolysable chlorine content and a low viscosity, and to provide an epoxy resin composition having excellent curability and heat resistance. SOLUTION: This method for producing the epoxy resin is characterized by reacting an aromatic amine with epichlorohydrin, adding sodium hydroxide to the reaction product, and further subjecting the mixture to a distillation treatment. The obtained epoxy resin is used.
