PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To re-record a video and sound signal to be recorded on a mass recording medium on a plurality of small capacity recording media by dividing the video and sound signal at a proper switching point of time. SOLUTION: In recording the video and sound signal on the mass recording medium 8, a switching detecting means 3 monitors a change of the video and sound signal, a partitioned point of time deciding means 4 defines a time when switching of video and sound is recognized as a partitioned point of time and partitions the video and sound signal into a plurality of parts within the limitation of a partition size determined by the partition limitation setting means 5.
