PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To deposit a metallic oxide thin film which has no occurrence of interference colors and interference fringes, and has satisfactory transparence on a transparent substrate. SOLUTION: In the method for producing a metallic oxide thin film-coated planar body, misty fine grains consisting of a liquid containing metallic elements are stuck to the surface of a transparent substrate to coat the surface of the transparent substrate with the same liquid, and then, heating treatment is performed to deposit a metallic oxide thin film having fine ruggedness on the surface of the thin film. At this time, it is preferable that the transparent substrate consists of a glass substrate, and the surface thereof is coated with the above liquid, and then, heating treatment is performed to deposit the metallic oxide thin film.
