PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a PDP display device having an ABBA array as a display electrode array and its driving method in which reactive power or the like is reduced to reduce power consumption and wiring discharging is surely conducted to provide good display performance. SOLUTION: Scanning pulses (writing pulses) having negative polarities are successively applied to the scanning electrodes in display electrodes of a first group made up with odd-numbered electrodes 19a1 , 19a3 , 19a5 , 19a7 ,..., 19aN-3 , and 19aN-1 from the top of a panel to the bottom of the panel along a y- direction of Figure 1 first among scanning electrodes groups 19a1 to 19aN. Having applied the pulses to the electrode 19aN-1 , scanning pulses are successively applied to the scanning electrodes in a second group display electrodes made up with even-numbered electrodes 19aN, 19aN-2 ,..., 19a4 and 19a2 in a reversed direction from the bottom to the top of the panel.
