PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a valve timing control device that implements a smooth relative turning movement between a housing member and a vane member via a simple structure. SOLUTION: An inner wall of a chain sprocket 11 facing a vane rotor has a recess 14 in which a fitting ring is pressed. A fit of a stopper piston in the fitting ring constrains a relative turning movement between the housing member and the vane rotor. A region of the recess 14 near to a through hole 13 has an arc recess portion 15 kept from contact with the fitting ring when the fitting ring is pressed in position. A camshaft is inserted in the through hole 13. While the fitting ring is pressed in the recessed portion 14, no stress develops in the region of the recess 14 near to the through hole 13, so that the through hole 13 can be protected against deformation. An increase in sliding resistance is prevented between an inner circumferential wall 12 forming the through hole 13 and the camshaft, so that the inner circumferential wall 12 and the camshaft slide smoothly.
