Selt-supporting negative plates for alkaline accumulators are made by compressing a mixture consisting of a powdered metal that does not take part in the reactions in the cell and the particles of which can be welded together by compression, an active metal oxide and a powder of a second and different inactive metal. The weldable metal may be cadmium, lead, tin or zinc, the oxide consisting of cadmium oxide and the second metal being nickel or an alloy of nickel. The compressed plates may contain metal inserts to increase the strength and conductivity. |
