PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a shaft sealing device capable of coping with increase of rotation speed of a rotating shaft and a use condition under which pressure in a shaft seal back surface side fluctuates and of improving and keeping a sealing function. SOLUTION: This shaft sealing device is installed between a housing 2 and the rotating shaft 1 and includes a first seal element 3 keeping slide contact with the rotating shaft 1 and a second seal element 4 arranged in a back surface gas side A of the first seal element 3 and keeping slide contact with the rotating shaft 1. A screw groove 6 is formed on a slide contact surface 5 of the first seal element 3. Thickness of the second seal element 4 is thinner than that of the first seal element 3 and width of a side contact part of the second seal element 4 is narrower than that of the first seal element 3. |
