The winding is a hollow rectangle in plan view. The long sides of the rectangle are joined by the short sides of the rectangle. The interior faces (5a,5b) of the short sides and the interior faces (4a,4b) of the long sides are non-parallel, although they are each symmetric about a median plane. The convergent faces simplify fitting the winding into the stator slots.
