The invention relates to an active cooling system in which flowing water or steam or a mixture of the two flows through inner cavities of the supporting elements or through cavities in the barriers, which enclose such elements. According to the invention, the active cooling system can substantially increase the fireproofness of steel constructions even in the event of unusually large sources of fire. As a result, the supporting structures can be prevented from collapsing when subjected to an exceptionally long and intensive fire. |
