DIRECT RESOLUTION OF RACEMIC THREO-METHYLPHENIDATE HYDROCHLORIDE

A method for direct resolution of racemic threo-methylphenidate is disclosed. The method comprises forming a diastereomeric salt of threo-methylphenidate and a single enantiomer of di-p-toluoyltartaric acid, and crystallizing out one of the diastereomers. The single diastereomer thus formed can be easily converted to any other pharmaceutically acceptable salt.
