SMOKE EVACUATION APPARATUS

A combined smoke evacuation and filter apparatus 10 adapted to receive and hold a surgical device 12 which may produce smoke, and which apparatus can be connected to a vacuum source 68. The apparatus includes a unitary holder 16 formed of elastic material, a suction tube 36 carrying the power line 14 of the device, a tubular plastic back end piece 44 connecting the holder to the suction tube, and a filter housing 50 at an end of the suction tube. The filter housing contains a four stage filter and a casual liquid collector. The unitary holder 16 has a cradle, a conically shaped portion, and an oval shaped lumen. The tubular back end piece is provided with a retaining fork which bears against the proximal end of the device 12, the elastic holder being stretched when the parts are assembled.
