<p>A container assembly (10) and method for storing, treating, transporting and stabilizing a biological sample includes a container (12), a closure member (14) and a sample holder (16) removably received in the container (12). The sample holder (16) can be a platform-like device dimensioned to be supported on a ledge (36) formed in the side wall (18) of the container (12). The sample holder (16) includes a central cavity (78) for receiving the sample (108) and immersing the sample (108) in the stabilizing agent in the container (12). The closure member (14) includes a body member (52) to close the top end of the central cavity (78) of the sample holder (16) and to limit movement of the sample holder (16) in the container (12). In another embodiment, the sample holder (16) has a closure cap (14) for closing the open top end of the cavity (78). The container (12) includes a liquid reagent (106) in an amount sufficient to treat the biological sample (108).</p> |
