The invention relates to a deep-fat fryer comprising a frying vessel (17) and at least one heating body (26) that is located in the frying vessel (17). The frying vessel receives a frying medium, for example frying fat or oil, which is first optionally melted by the heating body and is then heated to a temperature of between typically 100 and 200 DEG C, in particular between 150 and 190 DEG C. In known deep-fat fryers, the frying vessel usually consists of metal, for example stainless steel, enamelled steel or coated, uncoated or anodised aluminium. In contrast, the inventive deep-fat fryer is characterised in that the frying vessel (17) consists at least partially of a transparent or translucent material, which permits the frying operation to be visually checked.
