The invention relates to a Taylor reactor (1) comprising: 1. an annular gap-shaped reaction space (2), which widens in the flow-through direction and which is defined by an outer reactor wall (3), a rotor (4) that is rotationally mounted at end (4.1) in the reactor bottom (5) but is not mounted at the other end (4.2), and by a reactor bottom (5) provided with a seal (6) for the drive shaft (7); 2. an inlet area (8), which is located above the reactor bottom (5) and has at least one lateral supply line (8.1) and/or at least one supply line (8.1) that passes through the reactor bottom (5) while supplying educts and/or the process substances; 3. an outlet area (9), which is located above the annular gap-shaped reaction space (2), widens in the flow-through direction along the annular gap-shaped reaction space (2), and tapers toward a product discharge (10) while being connected thereto; 4. a product discharge (10) that, at its largest diameter, opens toward the outlet area (9) and tapers in the other direction, and; 5. a pressure maintaining valve (11). The invention also relates to the use of this Taylor reactor for continuously polymerizing in mass quantities.
