<p>The present invention includes methods of and devices to create, maintain and take advantage of a cytogenetic database. Patient data is entered into a database (402) and is associated with a unique patient identifier. Karyotypes are prepared (414) for the patient and associated with the unique patient identifier. The database includes a user interface (812) that allows a user to select and reorient individual chromosomes to prepare the karyotype. In addition, the database can be used to compose cytogenetic problems with the user interface.
